Dislocated Worker (DW)

The Dislocated Worker program was created to provide training assistance to people who have been laid off from a job or lost a job because the company closed. It can also help those who have been unemployed for a long time.

Applicants need to meet the criteria in one of the four categories to be considered eligible for the Dislocated Worker program:

Basic components of the Dislocated Worker program includes vocational assessment, including testing, career exploration and counseling, training to provide new skills, often customized, training to upgrade existing skills, support services (training allowance only), job placement assistance, and on-the-job training.

On-the-job training enables employers to hire someone for their full-time position which reimburses half the hourly wage of a person that an employer agrees to hire and train. The employer trains the person and gets reimbursed for the time it takes to train someone who lacks previous training or experience.

The program also assists employees with Business closing. The Dislocated Worker program is part of a Rapid Response Team that comprises of representatives from the Workforce Development, Unemployment Insurance, and community agencies to help business workers. This team eases the apprehension of a layoff.
