Importance of Job Training

You may be asking yourself, "Why should I go back for more training?" Whether you're new in the industry or have had twenty years of experience, obtaining further education or training skills is a great way to enhance your career in the tourism industry!

Here are some ways in which tourism education and training can help you improve your career:
  • Help you find a job
    Through obtaining education or training for the tourism industry, you will find that employers will be more willing to hire you because you have the necessary skills to become effective members of their staff. If you're just started to explore the possibility of joining the tourism industry, taking a training course or pursuing a degree in the travel and hospitality industry will open doors to new career opportunities!
  • Get a promotion
    There are many ways you can achieve success in the tourism industry. Receiving additional education and training specific to the tourism industry is one way to help you obtain that much deserved promotion.
  • Increase salary
    With greater experience and further training, not only do you position yourself to get a promotion but also receive a raise in your salary. Employers place great emphasis on employees that have all of the necessary skill sets for their job and are willing to pay for it.
  • Career change
    Are you at a point in your life where you want to explore other career options and don't know what to do? Maybe it's time to get some training or go back to school to start on a new career path in the tourism industry!
  • Try something different
    One of the great things about the tourism industry is the sheer variety of different career options. Tourism is comprised of thousands of workers covering numerous sectors of the state's economy. Training programs are clustered into two areas: Two- and four-year degree programs and the short-term training and job readiness programs.

Four-Year Bachelor and MBA/Master's Degree Programs

The following university programs offer four-year bachelor degree programs in either business or travel industry management. Obtaining a four year bachelor's or master's degree in business or travel industry management will enable you to achieve career advancement while learning new methods and techniques in the tourism industry.

Two-Year Associate's Degree

Associate degrees allow individuals the opportunity to get into the door for post-secondary education. By enrolling in an associate degree program, individuals are able to gain first hand learning and training experience for a variety of careers in the tourism industry. Credits from your Associate Degree can also be carried over if you choose to pursue a bachelor's degree!

Certification Programs

Certification programs are excellent ways to gain first-hand learning experience in a specific area of the tourism industry. Credits earned from these programs can often be counted toward fulfilling graduation requirements for an Associate degree.
