The program prepares those with little or no teaching experience to teach English as a Second Language to adults in the US and around the world.
Currently offered as a 4 week intensive.
Other possible formats can be PT evening/weekend over 10-12 weeks with weekly hours pro-rated
Time commitment for all formats:
? 32 hours pre-preparation
? 120 hours classroom work including practice teaching.
? Candidates can expect to devote 60 hours/wk to this course while it is in session. Non-class time will be for lesson planning and preparation, reading pertinent materials, and writing the four required papers.
The content covers five areas:
? Learners and teachers and the learner and teacher context
? Language analysis and awareness
? Language skills: reading, listening, speaking, writing
? Planning and resources for different contexts
? Developing teaching skills and professionalism
Each trainee has a minimum of 6 hours total in practice teaching of actual ESL beginner and intermediate learners in classes averaging 6 or larger. The teaching is critiqued and logged in the Candidate Record Book.
