Description

This program develops fundamental accounting literacy as the foundation for any accounting, bookeeping or financial career then advances to hands-on experience with an actual software-based accounting system, QuickBooks, the most widely recognized business software for small business. Program Participants take four courses to complete the full 20-hour curriculum to obtain their certificate of participation/completion.


 BUS 6326 Fundamentals of Accounting: Learn the basic skills needed to properly record and understand your business’s transactions from the receipt book to the check book, to proper financial reporting. Fundamental topics of double-entry bookkeeping include: Account classifications, debits, credits, T-accounts, liabilities, assets, owner’s equity, net income/loss, accounts payable, accounts receivable, the general ledger and journals.


 BUS6370: Hawaii General Excise Tax and Payroll Taxes: What You Need to Know - New business owners, bookkeepers, office managers and administrators will learn the prac-tical fundamentals of interpreting Hawaii’s General Excise Tax (GET) laws, as well as calculating and filing the correct forms for employer-related payroll taxes. Learn how to apply the correct tax rates, where to find and how to complete the required forms, and secure an understanding of your responsibilities and tax requirements related to compensation of your workers.


 BUS 6320 Quickbooks Part I: The course teaches participants everything you need to know to get started using QuickBooks. For experienced QuickBooks users, this course will bring you up-to-date on the current release of QuickBooks, refresh you on QuickBooks best practices, and teach you tips and tricks you may not yet be aware of. You will learn how to set up a new company and how to modify an existing company; maneuver in QuickBooks; set up the all-important Chart of Accounts; tax mapping; set up customers and jobs, vendors, items, and the many QuickBooks lists.


 BUS 6322 Quickbooks Part II: Continuation course teaches participants everything you need to know to get started using QuickBooks. For experienced QuickBooks users, this course will bring you up-to-date on the current release of QuickBooks, refresh you on QuickBooks best practices, and teach you tips and tricks you may not yet be aware of. You will learn how to set up a new company and how to modify an existing company; maneuver in QuickBooks; set up the all-important Chart of Accounts; tax mapping; set up customers and jobs, vendors, items, and the many QuickBooks lists.
