Advanced Solar Photovoltaic Training
@ Honolulu Community College
This course will cover PV system installations and is targeted to candidates working in the industry (e.g., contractor, foreperson, supervisor, journey worker, installers or licensed electrician). Emphasis is on the application of photovoltaic systems following the National Electrical Code rules. System sizing, conductor sizing, grounding and overcurrent protection will be covered. This course is intended to provide students with the 40 hours of PV Installer training required to sit for the NABCEP PV installer certification exam. Achieving a NABCEP certification gives installers a set of national standards by which they can distinguish themselves from their competition. It is not intended to prevent qualified individuals from installing PV systems nor replace state licensure requirements.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate the ability to select code compliant materials for a grid-tied PV system.
2. Identify and select the proper grounding and bonding equipment required for a PV system.
3. Demonstrate the proper conductor type and size for common types of PV systems.
4. Demonstrate the procedures for commissioning and troubleshooting a PV system.
Requirements for Participation:
Must be 18 years or older and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Must meet related experience and/or education to qualify to sit for the NABCEP PV Installer certification exam.
Prerequisite: Completion of Introduction to Photovoltaic Design and Installation
Certificate of Professional Development
