Certified Nurse's Aide

@ Windward Community College

Description

Our Indigenous curriculum includes Western medicinal teachings, Hawaiiana and gardening. The curriculum will prepare the student to achieve a level of knowledge, skills and abilities essential to provide basic care to ill or disabled persons. These skills include, but are not limited to, obtaining vital signs, bathing, grooming, positioning, toileting and ambulating. Instruction also to include legal rights, communication, safety, observation, reporting and assisting individual residents in maintaining basic comfort and safety. Teaching methodologies include lecture, lab and supervised clinical hours in a long-term care facility. In Hawaii, cultural understanding in the healthcare setting promotes holistic healing and alternatives to Western medicine. Our program strongly believes a balance of mind, body and soul promotes positive outcomes for the patient and caregiver. Upon successful completion of the course and clinical hours, students will be awarded a Certificate of Professional Development which will allow them eligibility to take the State of Hawaii Nurse Assistant Competency Evaluation examination with Prometric to become a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA).
